Print Design

This image is not a stock image, it’s created layer by layer.

Print Design doesn’t mean editing skills only. To work very well inside the Print Design field a graphic designer must know many things to create a good final file for print. First of all the worker must know about dpi and proportion: dpi are the number of printable points inside a square centimetre.

So every graphic designer should know that minimum numaber of dpi for a good print is 150 and the optimum is 300. Of course if you download an internet image that has basically 72 dpi at the right printable size, you should know that’s impossible to improve the quality only changing the number of dpi. Usually there’re some plugins that help this conversion but the result it’s really ugly many times.

Another important point is the different way to print between digital print service shops and typographies. These are really different ways to work and a graphic designer must know how to prepare the right file for the each print machine.

The neverending battle between CMYK color scale and RGB color scale is a point of interest for many print worker because it is one of the difference between the two types of print: usually the RGB color scale is used for web and video only (and it has a bigger color range than the CMYK) but actually many digital printer machine have a really good converter and a lot of colors more than the mixed of CMYK, but typographies can’t operate in the same way and they need graphic works in CMYK scale.

Another way to print in very good way with typography is to use PANTONE colors: this types of colors are universal and they have a specific series number so the print worker knows exactly which color you want for your graphic. But they are not so good for digital print because the digital printer machine try to convert that pantone in CMYK color scale and the result is many times not good.

The last but not the least is the choice for the right font. Fonts are really important part of the graphic and web design because the wrong font can destroy a pretty good design creation. A generic rule is to use two different fonts for creation but not more and the two fonts choosen must be integrated inside the general design of the page.

Below some examples about my works but if you need to see something else feel free to download the pdf portfolio inside the PORTFOLIO & CV page.
